It has been reported by media three people were killed and one wounded in a shooting on campus on December 6th. The suspect was killed by responding officers. Therefore, there is no ongoing threat. The university will remain closed for the week. A decision on reopening next week is pending.

According to reports, a prayer service was held at St. Viator Catholic Church that memorialized the people who were lost as a result of the shooting. And through all of this, students still have to wrap up the year. Some may have to do finals, and everyone is getting ready for the holiday season, a season that will feel different this year. Prayer for UNLV Students

Dear Heavenly Father,

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with hearts weighed down by grief and sorrow. We gather in spirit to uplift the University of Nevada, Las Vegas community during this time of profound loss. Lord, we know that You are always present in our trials, and we seek Your divine intervention to bring peace to the brokenhearted.

As we reflect on the tragic events that have shaken not only the campus but also the very fabric of our society, we ask that Your loving arms embrace those who are suffering. May they feel your presence in their moments of despair, providing comfort and solace in the darkest of times. Surround them with kindred spirits who can share the burden of their pain, reminding them that they are not alone in their grief.

Lord, we ask that You grant strength to the family members and friends of those dearly departed. Please fill their hearts with hope amidst heartbreak, allowing them to remember the joy and love shared in their lives. As they navigate the tumult of emotion, let them find glimpses of Your divine light, guiding them toward healing and understanding.

Lord, keep all the student safe.

We pray for the students at UNLV, that You shield them from fear and anxiety. Help them to support one another, embracing compassion and understanding as they process the impact of these events. Instill in them the courage to rise from adversity, standing united as a community stronger and more resilient than before.

And for the faculty and staff, we seek Your guidance as they strive to foster an environment of support and healing. May they lead with empathy and grace, encouraging open dialogue and understanding, knowing that their role in this healing is significant. Give them the words to comfort and the wisdom to guide their students through this challenging time.

As we unite in prayer, let our collective voices rise to You, Father, echoing our hopes for healing and restoration. We trust in Your promise to never leave us nor forsake us. May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Amen.

In Jesus’ precious name, we pray.

Amen.

Stay strong UNLV.
