If you’re praying for job like me, then you’re probably dealing with a lot of emotions. You’re dealing with the constant revisions of your resume. You’re dumbing down your resume because you JUST NEED A JOB. You’re looking at every side hustle known to man.
As I reviewed my job history, I realized one thing: The past five jobs I’ve had didn’t come from anything I did. That’s right. You can sit here and submit application after every application. What was different? Did the Google robots put my resume in the right place? Probably not (haha). Everything I have received comes from God. As a Christian this is what I believe. The my marriage, kids, community, ministry, it all comes from God.

What Does the Bible Say?
You’ll notice in the scriptures the Bible says nothing about praying for a job. Why? Because God through Jesus Christ is our Provider. Consider these three verses for example:
Philippians 4:19 (NIV)
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
• This verse reminds believers that God’s provision is not based on our circumstances but on His unlimited resources in Christ.
Matthew 6:31–33 (NIV)
“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
• Jesus assures that when we prioritize God’s kingdom, He faithfully provides what we need.
Psalm 34:10 (NIV)
“The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”
• This verse shows that even in scarcity, those who depend on the Lord experience His faithful provision.
You’re probably like, “Ok, I get it, but I’m staring down bills due and providing food and the holidays are right around the corner.” Dude I’m there!
When Praying For A Job, You’re Praying For the Provision, Not a Job.
I learned in my many talks with the Holy Spirit is that in my prayers, I needed to do these three things. I hope they help you:
- Give thanks FIRST. Never forget your current status. You’re not where you want to be, but you’re not where you used to be or could be. Don’t cheapen God do to being your wallet.
- YOU ARE NOT THE PROVIDER! I hear so many women describing their husbands as such and vise versa. They produce from what God provides. Now, for those who don’t walk with the Lord it might be the case because you’ve chosen to depend on man than the Lord, and that man you have has decided to depend on himself instead of the Lord for provision. For the Believer, it’s THE LORD.
- You are producing from what God is providing. You take what God provides to you and produce from that. When you get a job, you Thank God for that job. From the job you produce a happy home, stable finances, and better emotional management. In other words, you’re taking God’s provision and redistributing it to where it needs to go. Why? That is why God blessed ya.

Once I got this, my unemployment gaps became less stressful. The stress is still there because we are going to worry to a certain degree about everything. We’re human. But the Holy Spirit can keep us in the obedience of the Lord to receive his provision. From that we endure, and our faith grows.

I’m Praying For a Job With You. Let’s Pray Together.
I don’t know if this helps anyone. Typing it helped me. I pray for your success as always:
Lord, it’s another week I’ve been available and no calls for a job. Help me tune into your discernment and have you rule my emotions. I don’t want to make makes, I want to listen to you and do what you command me to do. I know you’re going to provide, you always do. Thank you for that. Let my patience and faith be a witness to the weak Believer or the Non-Believer watching and seeing how I operate. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
