York, PA — Genesis Church of York opened its sanctuary on Sunday to welcome neighbors, officers, and families in honoring Detectives Cody Becker, Mark Baker, and Isaiah Emenheiser of the Northern York County Regional Police Department. The three were killed in an ambush in North Codorus Township while serving a warrant on a stalking suspect. Two other officers were wounded and remain hospitalized.

The memorial service was not only a time of mourning but also a powerful reminder of the role community plays in healing. Attendees shared stories of Becker’s mentorship, Baker’s forensic expertise, and Emenheiser’s steady presence. The sanctuary filled with songs, prayers, and tears, yet also thankfulness. Genesis Church’s message of faith created a space where sorrow and hope could stand together.
Leaders urged unity as officers and civilians stood side by side. The gathering became a symbol of resilience, underscoring that in shared loss there can also be strength.
York County continues to grieve, but support has been visible. The Honor Their Service fund provides a way for people to donate directly to the families. Vigils, processions, and residents lining the streets to welcome the fallen home illustrated how deeply these officers touched lives. Coverage from WGAL News 8 and PBS NewsHour has shown both the depth of grief and the wave of solidarity stretching across Pennsylvania.
Genesis Church of York, located at 1405 Seven Valleys Road, went beyond hosting the service. Its Outreach Ministry and Prayer Team stood alongside grieving families, offering comfort and compassion. The church reminded everyone that tragedy can become a call to action, urging people to pray, to give, and to love with renewed purpose.
The memory of Detectives Becker, Baker, and Emenheiser now endures not only in mourning but in the unity they inspired. In their honor, York chooses to stand together, grieving, healing, and rebuilding with hope.
A Prayer of Comfort and Hope
Heavenly Father,
In moments like these, our words feel small, our hearts heavy, and our questions many. Yet You are near to the brokenhearted and You save those crushed in spirit. Today, as we remember Cody, Mark, and Isaiah, we lift before You their families, their friends, and this grieving community.
We thank You for lives spent in service, for courage that faced danger, and for character that pointed others toward truth and justice. In their memory, remind us that no labor done in love is ever wasted in Your sight. Hold their families in the comfort of Your everlasting arms. When loneliness comes in the night and sorrow presses in the day, whisper again the promise that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ.
We ask for healing for the officers recovering in hospital. Grant wisdom to doctors, strength to nurses, and patience to families waiting by their sides. For the officers still serving, cover them with Your protection and renew their resolve with hope.
And Lord, do in us what only You can do. Turn grief into gentleness, despair into courage, and anger into compassion. May this tragedy call us not to bitterness but to love more deeply, forgive more freely, and live more faithfully. No one is never ready for death, yet we pray to endure the days ahead. May we never get over it, but learn to transition in strength each day. We do it for the fallen, the families, the community.
We rest tonight in the assurance that though we do not understand, we can trust You fully. You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Into Your hands, we place our grief, our questions, and our future.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
