1. Thank God for His Faithfulness
Before you plan anything, pause and remember what God has already done. His grace brought you through every challenge, and His love sustained you through every storm. Gratitude shifts your focus from what’s missing to what’s already been given.
Journal Assignment:
List three blessings from last year that clearly show God’s faithfulness. Next to each, write one sentence of thanks. End your entry by praying, “Lord, You’ve been good, and I trust You’ll be faithful again this year.”
2. Surrender Your Plans to God
\We all make plans, but God writes the perfect story. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” Start the year by releasing control and letting Him lead your steps.
Journal Assignment:
Write down your top three goals for 2026. Under each one, add, “Lord, I give this to You.” Ask for wisdom, patience, and the faith to follow His direction — even when it looks different from yours.
3. Pray for a Renewed Mind
A new year won’t change much if our mindset stays the same. Renewal begins with surrendering old thoughts and embracing God’s truth. Romans 12:2 calls us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Journal Assignment:
Identify one thought or worry you need to release. Write it down, then beneath it, record a verse of truth that speaks life into that space — maybe Philippians 4:8 or Isaiah 26:3. Read it every morning this week.
4. Seek Forgiveness and Offer Grace
Don’t drag last year’s pain into this new one. Forgiveness frees you to walk lightly with God. The Lord forgave you; now extend that same grace to others.
Journal Assignment:
Write the names of anyone you need to forgive. Next to each, say, “Lord, I release them.” Then list one person who may need your apology and pray for the courage to reach out.
5. Commit Your Year to Service
A life that serves others reflects Jesus’ heart. Every act of kindness becomes an echo of His love. Service turns ordinary days into sacred ones.
Journal Assignment:
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you one way to serve this month — in your church, home, or community. Write it down, then circle a date to act on it. Love grows through obedience.
6. Reflect on God’s Promises
When life feels uncertain, God’s promises are your anchor. His Word reminds you that He’s already working on your behalf.
Journal Assignment:
Choose one promise from Scripture to carry through 2026, your “theme verse.” Write it across your journal page in big letters and pray over it daily. Let that verse shape your attitude and decisions this year.
7. Close with Praise and Expectation
End your journaling time in worship. Praise shifts your heart from anxiety to assurance. It invites God’s joy into your new year.
Journal Assignment:
Write a short prayer of thanksgiving for 2026. Thank Him for what He’s already prepared, even if you can’t see it yet. Speak your trust out loud: “Lord, I believe You will guide me through this year.”

Friend, these Prayer Journal Entries for the First Day of the Year are not just exercises, they are encounters. When you take time to write, listen, and pray, you draw closer to the heart of God. Each word becomes a seed of faith planted in this brand-new year.
So as 2026 begins, walk boldly, write honestly, and pray consistently. God has written this chapter with purpose. Step into it with peace, knowing He goes before you and walks beside you.
“The Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul.” — Isaiah 58:11
This year, let your first words belong to Him, and watch how the rest of your days fall into place.
