Finding Faith: Keep Working On Yourself This Season

Finding Faith means learning to keep working on yourself in the strength of Christ. Today we travel to 2 Corinthians 13:5.

I’ll be the first to admit, self-examination is hard. Most of us would rather fix someone else’s problems than look in the mirror and ask, “How am I really doing in my walk with God?” Yet Scripture reminds us that growth begins when we honestly evaluate where we stand in faith. Keeping working on yourself is not about guilt or perfection. It’s about trusting that Jesus is shaping you day by day. The Spirit corrects, strengthens, and matures us as we continue in Him.

Why It Matters to Keep Working on Yourself

The Christian life is not a one-time event. It’s a daily process of surrender and transformation. When Paul calls believers to examine themselves, he isn’t pointing to shame, but to growth. To keep working on yourself means asking God to search your heart, reveal blind spots, and strengthen your faith. You are not abandoned in the process. Christ lives in you, giving power to keep moving forward even when you feel weak.

For example, I know for a fact I have to get up every morning and stretch, get a walk in if possible. If not I will not feel good the rest of the day. I’m not where I used to be with my health, but I’m in a good place mentally when I work on the things God has shown me to keep up with. And then there’s the Spiritual side: Do I need a better Bible study time? Prayer time? I am communicating with God consistently? It all matters!

Bible Reading to Consider

2 Corinthians 13:5 (NIV)
“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?”

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart that longs for growth. I know I am not perfect, but I am grateful that in Christ, perfection is not the goal, transformation is. Thank You for calling me to keep working on myself, not in my own strength, but in the power of Your Spirit. Lord, when I struggle with discouragement, remind me that You began this good work in me and You will bring it to completion. When I feel the weight of my shortcomings, remind me that Your grace is sufficient and Your power is made perfect in weakness.

Help me to practice self-examination, not with fear, but with confidence that Christ is within me. Let Your Spirit show me where I need to repent, where I need to forgive, and where I need to trust You more deeply. Father, give me courage to face what needs to change, patience to endure the process, and joy in knowing You are shaping me each day. May my growth bring honor to You and encouragement to others who are also walking this journey of faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
