Tonight’s Prayer: Finding Your Space

The craziest quest you’ll ever be on is finding your space with people: I want to show them all the things I can do. Why? I think they’re cool. God has given me some great gifts. Everyone doesn’t feel that way.

It’s then I realize that maybe, just maybe I haven’t found my space with people just yet. What is that space? Is it being a part of the crowd silent? Maybe you’re invited because they know questions will arise if you’re not there. They’re tolerating you…

Oh, better yet, maybe you’re the person who they know just wants to be a part and belong and they don’t like that either! Some people want you to play to their ego to make them feel special. It’s sad, but true. As a teenager, when I would see people I knew from school I was always going over to say hi. My mother told me, “Do not do that again. They didn’t even wave at you. Why are you going over there?” I wanted to belong so bad. As an adult, you may find yourself still there: On a quest finding your space with people.

Finding Your Space With People Needs God’s Discernment, period.

Some people have found themselves on the short end of the stick trying to belong. As a person who’s deemed himself an outlaw of cultural norms and unwritten racial rules that so many worship, I can tell you from the outside looking in, you’re going to be ok right where you are. It’s not about how white you are, how black you are, or how Christian you are. Jesus Christ has given purpose to us all, and it’s our job to focus on things eternal rather than serving the world’s idols.

Tonight’s Prayer: Finding Your Space And Feeling Better

Tonight Lord I’m fighting so many fronts. I am just overwhelmed at times. My chest hurts, It’s frustrating. Sometimes I think, “finally, I’ve hit that spot where happiness resides”, only to be hurt by people. I can see why people quit church. I see why pastors quit ministries. At the same time I know what endurance looks like because I’ve been enduring all my life. I have you to thank for that. So Lord Jesus, forgive my frustrations and know what when I feel like I’m not in the right space, or if my loved ones feel passed over or not treated right, just know that I know you see it too, and you hear it too, and you’ll do what you do. I will remain solid and silent. I know you know the way. Amen.
