According to reports, a North Minneapolis prayer group is seeing great things happen from their weekly prayer walks.
A prayer walk brings people out of the pews and into the streets. Participants walk through local neighborhoods while praying for the families, schools, and businesses they pass along the way. Some pray silently, others out loud. Either way, the goal is the same: to lift up the community and invite peace into places that have known too much pain. Weekly Prayer Walks also involve having great faith. Actively believing in the power of prayer is the core. It’s not about just feeling good in the end.

According to CBS News, Dave Halstensgard helped form the prayer group with Pastor Doris Allison, from Proverbs Christian Fellowship church. The report goes on to say the group walks the Northside every Sunday. They walk areas deemed “hot spots” by Minneapolis police, the report states.
As a result, they reported “…Since starting these prayer walks last fall, they’ve seen crime go down. The city’s crime statistics show that gun violence in Ward 4 is down 32% compared to this time last year.”
What Does The Bible Say About Prayer?
This North Minneapolis prayer group is spot on when it comes to making real change in their community. For every Prayer Warrior, this is the response we give. But what does the Bible say?
- Matthew 18:20 – “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” This captures the essence of community prayer—God’s presence shows up when people unite in faith.
- Acts 1:14 – “They all joined together constantly in prayer…” Just like the early church, the prayer walk is a modern echo of believers coming together with purpose.
- James 5:16 – “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” This speaks to the impact of faithful, heartfelt prayer—especially when it’s done in unity.
A Prayer For The North Minneapolis Prayer Group
Gracious God and mighty Deliverer, We thank You for these saints who rise up week after week, not in fear—but in faith. They are not spectators in the struggle. They are warriors in the Spirit, walking the streets of North Minneapolis with Your power and Your promise.
Lord, let every step they take be holy ground. Let every prayer they whisper become a shout in heaven. We declare in the name of Jesus: strongholds will fall, peace will rise, and love will lead.
Cover the children they pass, the homes they bless, the corners they claim. Anoint their hands to heal, their words to reconcile, their presence to restore. Bind them together, Lord—black, white, brown, young, old, rich, poor—united in the gospel, anchored in Your truth.
Let revival walk with them, hope talk through them, and joy break out around them. Let North Minneapolis know: the Church is not confined to the building. The Church is walking, praying, and believing for change.
And when the walk ends tonight, let the echoes remain. Let the prayers linger. Let the light shine. Let the story spread—God is moving in these streets!
In the name of Jesus, we speak it, we believe it, and we seal it.
